Located near the island’s geographical center, the neighborhood was founded in 1680 as Karle’s Neck Village.  By the early 19th Century the community included a dock  on Richmond Creek and several freshwater springs, leading to its being renamed first Springville, then later New Springville.

A little bit of country and a little bit of city side by side- that’s New Springville.  You have tree lined blocks yet all the convenient amenities close by.  If you don’t drive or just prefer walking,  everything is within walking distance.  All the shops you could possibly want are located in the nearby Staten Island Mall. Maybe you have a favorite store like Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, ToysRus,Marshalls, Staples, StopnShop, Costco,  Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, to  name just a few. There are plenty of restaurants, like my favorite Italian restaurant, Bella  Vita. Schools and churches of various denominations are scattered, there is a New Springville Little League, and the beautiful Latourette Park and Golf Course that keeps golfers and joggers busy with beautiful greens as well .  Visit the Decker Farm,  New York City’s last working farm, right on Richmond Hill Road. Each season highlights a different festival to entertain the public that caters especially to families.

For those of you who commute to the city, there are express buses readily available at different locations.
