I think most people are aware of this tax break, but just in case, I don’t want to “assume.” It’s called the “School Tax Relief Star Exemption”  program.This is just a rough idea but it’s been brought to my attention that some are not aware of this program. If not, call 311 and inquire.  There are two STAR exemptions: Basic STAR for homeowners with incomes under $500,000, and Enhanced STAR for senior citizens with incomes under $81,900. The deadline to register for the STAR Program is December 31, 2013. By the way,  it is absolutely FREE!! Just to be a bit more specific, when you call 311  they will ask for name, address, etc. and send a form from New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. This form will have detailed instructions to register for the Star property tax exemption online at http://www.tax.ny.gov or by  telephone at 518-457-2036. Don’t delay, take advantage of this tax break if you’re eligible!!
